Maurice “Mo” Smith joined the Sycuan team in 2022 as Executive Director of the Sycuan Medical Dental Center. With over 25 years in the nonprofit sector—more than 20 of those focused on American Indian/Alaska Native communities—he specializes in youth programs, health education & promotion, sports and wellness, and social and economic development.
Mo has over 10 years of leadership experience in the healthcare field, dedicated to developing high-quality, accessible, and culturally competent health services for both tribal and non-tribal members. His commitment to the mission of the Sycuan Health Center is unwavering, with a strong focus on ensuring top-tier healthcare for all patients and clients. Since joining the Sycuan team, he has played a pivotal role in its growth and development, preparing for the transition to the new clinic in 2025. As a passionate health advocate, Mo remains steadfast in his efforts to serve underserved Native and tribal communities.
Outside of work, Mo enjoys trail running, golfing with friends and family, and riding his Harley. He has a passion for exploring foreign countries and immersing himself in new cultures.
