Maurice Smith

Maurice has more than 27 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector and over 30 years working with Native American and Tribal communities. His professional background includes leadership roles with the National Council of Urban Indian Health, Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center, Urban Indian Center of Salt Lake and the United States Olympic Committee. Maurice also served as Executive Director for the Native American Sports Council, spearheading the 2006 North American Indigenous Games.

In 2022, Maurice joined the Sycuan team, where he now serves as Executive Director. He values his work with the entire team and the “One Sycuan” concept.

A Colorado native, Maurice is a citizen of the Navajo Nation with African American heritage. He enjoys running and spending time with his two children and four grandchildren.
